Why God Feels Silent

August 13, 2026

There are seasons in our lives when prayer feels like we’re talking into an empty room. You pray, you wait, you keep showing up—but nothing seems to change. The answers don’t come. The situation doesn’t get easier and slowly, you begin to wonder if God is listening at all.

If you’ve ever felt that way, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed at prayer or you should just try harder… it means you’re human.

God’s silence can be difficult because we often expect His presence to feel obvious. Scripture reminds us that God is not only present in the dramatic moments, but sometimes He’s working quietly and in ways we cannot yet see or understand. Faith isn’t pretending everything is okay. It’s choosing to stay in relationship with God even when you don’t have the answers.

That’s where the next step begins—not by trying harder to feel God, but by being honest with Him. So don’t be afraid to bring Him your silence, your frustration, and even your doubt. Someone once said, “He’s a big God, He can handle it.”

You don’t need to clean up your feelings before you come to Him. God would rather have your honest heart than perfect words.

This week, find a moment each day and simply tell God where you are. Then sit quietly for several minutes. You may not hear anything back, but that’s okay. You’re practicing something important: staying close to God even when you can’t feel Him.
